Shelter policy regarding strays:
Animals admitted as stray were found (running at large, etc,) and will be held for the required holding period per Michigan Law for stray animals. Michigan Law requires shelters to hold stray animals for four days (without collar or ID) and seven days (with collar or ID).
A $15 pickup fee (per day) will be charged. Animals not claimed during the holding period will be made available for adoption. Missaukee County residents can purchase licenses through the Missaukee County Treasurer's office. Having a collar with license tags helps shelter staff return these animals to their owners faster.
